The Players Love the Beach Nations Cup®
Berlin/Zurich, 7 February 2006: Innovative Beach Volleyball Concept in the European Winter Under the Arena Roof Will Turn to a Success
The world-class Beach Volleyball teams from Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Spain and the Netherlands were unanimous in their opinion of the Beach Nations Cup® Final 2006 presented by NESTEA: The idea to install a kind of Davis Cup for Beach Volleyball was right. The performance as a team for the own nation, the format of “singles” (two on two) and “doubles” (four on four) as well as the organisation of the entire tournament weekend were exceptional.
Norway’s team captain Jorre Kjemperud was the most enthusiastic: “This is a perfect tournament. We need more of these. I could imagine four or five, once a month, from November to February. How the final modus should look like will have to be discussed amongst the parties, but the European teams need these kinds of competitions during the winter.” Julius Brink and his German team-mates, winners of the Beach Nations Cup®, feel the same way: “The tournament date is very good, because the teams are in indoor Beach Volleyball training and need a first competitive test. Proving yourself against other world-class Beach Volleyball nations is a welcomed challenge; the team concept is incredible. It is great to sit in the box with your team-mates cheering them on from the sidelines.
Werner von Moltke, President of the German Volleyball Federation, is pleased with the tournament and “especially with the teams’ good performances already this early in the year. Of course I am especially pleased with the success of the German teams.” The men’s and women’s teams both won the Beach Nations Cup® trophy. Von Moltke sees an especially great potential in the four on four matches: “The Quattro matches were fantastic – this is a valuable enrichment as a competition form in the scope of the Beach Nations Cup®.
Christian Scholbrock, Managing Director of Global Sports Marketing Ltd. (GSM) agrees: “The current development status is very good. The Beach Nations Cup® concept will continue to establish itself with every additional step. There is still a lot of potential in certain areas of event marketing that we have to analyse in detail to further grow the Beach Nations Cup® and learn from the experiences in 2005 and 2006. We are very pleased with the support we have received from our sponsor and media partners and especially from the City of Berlin” The Beach Nations Cup® Final 2006 presented by NESTEA will be evaluated in detail by all parties to plan the next steps. “We had a great number of interested guests from all of Europe in Berlin that are discussing the idea of the Beach Nations Cup® within their national volleyball federations and with local organisers to see how they can best get involved.”
